Stockport included former Albion star Derek Kevan as stand in centre half, former Wolves man Eddie Stuart, Fred Goodwin, formerly with Man utd and Wolves as well as a few former Manchester City players like Alan Ogley and Bill Haydock. Len Allchurch from Sheffield Utd and brother of the great Ivor Allchurch was on the right wing.
With all this experience in their ranks no surprise that they went away with winning points against a poor Walsall side. Sad way to end my association with the Saddlers as this Boxing Day game proved to be my last ever match at Fellows Park.

Leeds United in second place in the first division were too good in the end for Derby County, currently languishing in the bottom half of division two. This was my first ever visit to the Baseball Ground and little did I know how Derby would progress in the next few years.
Leeds United comfortably beat Derby in the second leg at Elland Road three weeks later and went on to win the League Cup at Wembley by beating Arsenal 1-0.
