Goodbye to Leeds Road, Huddersfield - 30.4.1994

Posted by Tony Hutton

Although I was not present myself for the last rites, I collected a lot of material to celebrate the last ever match played at the Leeds Road ground of Huddersfield Town. This took place on 30th April 1994 when Town took on Blackpool. I lived in Huddersfield as a young schoolboy from 1946-1949 and was a regular on the terracing behind the goal at the Kilner Bank end in front of the half time scoreboard. So lots of memories flooded back as I re-lived those three years in the very first stages of this blog.

After a team of former players had been introduced to the crowd by Steve Kindon, including Albert Nightingale, who fell over to remind us of his antics as one of the first 'divers' in the game, the teams came out of the tunnel for the last time. The players introduced were Hugh Turner, Len Butt, Eddie Boot, Peter Doherty, Albert Nightingale, Willie Davie, Dennis Law, Kevin mcHale, Steve Smith, Peter Fletcher and Dave Sutton.

The last match. This is where I used to stand to watch Huddersfield Town from 1946-1949.

The last match. This is the view I had from a bit lower down behind the goal.
