For all Wednesday's heroics, especially the performance of the badly injured Vic Mobley, they lost the Cup Final at Wembley to Everton 3-2, despite being 2-0 up at one stage. The unlikely hero for Everton was centre forward Mike Trebilcock, a surprise selection for the final, who scored two goals followed by the winner from Derek Temple. Trebilcock only had a short career with Everton and soon moved on to Portsmouth.

  1. Goodness me 55 years ago. As a young Villa fan I used to go to the semis at Villa Park each season, there was always one there. I lived in Perry Barr about a mile or so from VP. On that occasion I was walking down to the match when a posh new car pulled up and asked the way to the stadium. I jumped in and directed them, it turned out to be Graham Pugh's (Sheff Wed) mom and dad. He scored that day. I always thought it was a Capri but they didn't start until 69
