SATURDAY 30TH JULY, 1966

WORLD CUP FINAL AT WEMBLEY STADIUM

ENGLAND 4 (Hurst 3, Peters) WEST GERMANY 2 (Haller, Weber) - after extra time

Banks; Cohen, Wilson; Stiles, Charlton (J), Moore (capt);
Ball, Hunt, Charlton (R), Hurst, Peters;

Tilkowski; Hottges, Schulz; Beckenbauer, Schnellinger, Weber;

Roger Hunt claims the goal for England. I always felt that the ball must have crossed the line as he could have followed up and put it in the net but did not bother.


The final goal which brought the unforgettable quote from television commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme - ' Some people are on the pitch. They think it's all over - it is now!'
