NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE AT THE SILVERLANDS, BUXTON

BUXTON 1 (Charlesworth) MATLOCK TOWN 1 (N. Fenoughty)

Matlock Town ended 1975 after winning the F.A. Trophy at Wembley, together with the Derbyshire Senior Cup, their highest ever placing so far at second in the Northern Premier League and a record number of goals. As the local paper commented 'the one-time ugly ducklings have flown to the top under the guidance of the man who has proved to be a very fine Swan indeed for Matlock - and they have every right to preen their feathers proudly'.

Manager Peter Swan was rightly proud of their performances, which included three victories during the Christmas period, beating local rivals Buxton 3-1 at home on Boxing Day and also achieving two away wins at South Liverpool and Worksop.

They started the New Year with a hard earned point at Buxton today and will look forward to the rest of the season with confidence.
