Wesson; Gregg, Evans; Sissons, Cross, Meath;
Smith, Baker, Kirby, Jackson, Harrison;
Best; Asprey, Knighton; Blair, Hunter, Bowie;
Blore, Towers, Ledger, Frizzell, Collins;
Referee:- A.R.C. Weller, Bromley.
Alec Jackson, Walsall's latest signing from Birmingham City earned a point for the Saddlers with a goal in the 55th minute. It looked for some time as if this would be the winner but Towers equalised just seven minutes from the end from a pass from Blore. The linesman raised his flag for offside but was overruled by the referee.
Earlier Towers had been the most dangerous forward for the visitors hitting the bar early on and then having another effort disallowed for offside. Walsall had 18 year old centre half Roy Cross making his debut in a much changed side and he did well to block two good efforts when Oldham looked the better side.
Walsall had their moments and Smith headed just wide before Baker had a shot blocked on the line by Bowie.
