Walsall put up a good performance and were unlucky not to come away with at least a draw. They certainly looked the equal of the higher division side in all aspects of the game and were level at half time. Woodward had put United ahead when put through by Fenoughty who had controlled a goal kick from Hodgkinson. Taylor equalised before the interval but Woodward scored the winner for the Blades just before the end.
