SATURDAY 16TH NOVEMBER, 1974

NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE AT CAUSEWAY LANE, MATLOCK

MATLOCK TOWN 2 (Layne, Fenoughty M.) GATESHEAD 2 (Elliott, Temple)

Matlock Town's current weakness for conceding late goals cost them another Northern Premier League point. Town were well on top after first half goals from David Layne (35 minutes) and Mick Fenoughty (44 minutes) and looked all set for success until George Elliott pulled one back for Gateshead after 70 minutes.

Even player-manager Peter Swann in the middle of the back for, could not help the jitters that developed in the Matlock defence after that. Substitute Colin Temple brought on for Dave Rutherford  was unchallenged as he rifled in an 80th minute equaliser.
