This was the week when we planned to move house from Sheffield to Leeds. However the move was put back for a week in order that my son, Peter, could celebrate his ninth birthday not only with a party but a trip to Bramall Lane, with his school friends, to see United play West Ham. This proved to be a good decision as we saw one of the best games ever at the Lane which was highlighted that evening on BBC's 'Match of the Day'. Tony Currie was very much the star of the show as the following report confirms.

Referee:- D.B. Healy, Norwich.

The lure of the F.A. Trophy and a possible trip to Wembley made certain that we travelled from our new home in Leeds back to Derbyshire for this vital semi-final, which did not go according to plan.

We could not make it to Burton for the second leg of the semi-final, but had to admit that it seemed as if the dream of a trip to Wembley was over. However as you will see from the match reports Matlock once again overturned the odds to make it to the final.
